What is Your Favorite Cleaning Hack?

I have some cleaning hacks I LOVE, that I’ll be sharing over the next number of weeks! 😊

Cleaning Hack #1:

How to Conquer the 14er Mountain of Dishes

This came from years of living in an older house with no dishwasher and family of five that ate for a family of ten.🙃

This is THE LAUNDRY BASKET METHOD.
This was completely a game changer for me when I was praying to God and crying out to him for the bajillionth time and probably 8 years because with my health issues I often struggled keeping up with the dishes. I would get so far behind it didn’t seem like it would ever get done and when your body only functions for 4 hours a day and you’ve got 8 hours of dishes, what’s a girl supposed to do!?😪

I hated looking at dirty dishes all over the counters and table and stove and in the sink and everywhere else, but it was just overwhelming to my brain because I knew there was no way I was going to wash them all, rinse them all and dry them all.

This system for me was an answer to prayer. And it became an effective way for catching up dishes after a crazy busy week even after I was healthier, that could also engage my children, sparing my sweet husband whose job is cleaning all day long, even though he will come home after a 12-hour day and still wash the dishes! But we try really really hard not to have to let him do the cleaning. (Garin is my hero and the Wind Beneath My Wings.💞)

But whether you are flying solo, or have to feed an army of 10, this is a great hack when things get way behind.

Now we did not have a dishwasher and so this system is for those who have to hand wash dishes, but even if you do have a dishwasher you can still implement this when you get way behind.

Unless you have a really really good dishwasher  if you’ve got caked on food sitting for days, you’re not going to be able to just toss it in the dishwasher and get it clean and how long are you going to stand there and keep reloading, unloading, reloading and unloading the dishwasher to catch up?

This really streamlines it when you get way behind. If you do have a dishwasher you can still throw a load in and be doing this system catching the rest up while your dishwasher is going. (Unless you have a portable dishwasher and then it won’t work to do both at the same time.)

One beautiful thing about this system is everything doesn’t have to be done tonight!

You can finish it the next morning or when there’s time, but once everything’s washed, and all the stuck on food and all the junk is done even if the pots and pans and dishes are still in the laundry basket somebody can grab them rinse them and use them without it taking more than a minute or two.

But encourage other family members or roommates to help finish the task. I like to have all of my dishes washed and rinsed and laid out on towels or dish mats in the evening. And then in the morning we can put them away.

This also a GREAT tip for high creatives, artists, and those with – whoa! – Did you see that squirrel video?! Oh, sorry — ADD.😝

ADD/ADHD CLEANING HACK. (Skip if you don’t need this.) Set timers. On a bad brain day, I do 7 minute timers and every 7 minutes I stop what I’m doing and go walk out the door up the steps to the deck back down and then set another 7 Minute Timer and do another 7 Minutes worth of work.

Most days I can do 15 or 20 minute timers. I have matured. There are days I can actually go for a whole hour without getting sidetracked. But there are also bad brain days where I set 7 minute timers.

The beautiful thing about 7 minute timers or 15 minute timers is when you get distracted the timer brings you back to what you’re supposed to be doing. So when you’re clearing the dishes and suddenly decide that all the stuck on food on the stove needs to be detailed over the next 2 hours just because it’s there and that’s what your eyes caught and you’re supposed to be doing, 7 minutes into trying to detail the top of the stove instead of throwing the dishes into the sink, the timer goes off and reminds you that you’re actually supposed to be putting dishes in the sink.

If you do not have a dishwasher or you have a very large mess covering all of your counters and table, try this laundry basket hack!

Depending on the size of your mess, your personal health and the number of people helping you, this can take anywhere from 2 to 8 hours. If you’re in our area, contact us and we’ll do it for you or help you to get it done!

You will need ONE to THREE tall laundry baskets. (If you have a large kitchen floor space, you can use the larger horizontal kind but if you have a small house or apartment you’re going to want the tall laundry baskets.) You will need to pick up a couple at Walmart if you do not have them and just store them in a closet somewhere or hang them from the ceiling (jk) when not in use.

1. Strong Dish Soap with Good DegreaserWe love Ginger Lily Farms Fragrance Free Foaming/Spray Dish Soap

I pair this with

Norwex pump dish soap Forever Refillable BioZyme™ Set with Dispenser

Blueland dishwasher tablets

and Blueland Powder Dish Soap

in my Kitchen, but for this current deep clean, the Ginger Lily Farms is the only dishwashing product you will need, unless you’re using a dishwasher and then you’ll need your dishwasher detergent.   YES! You can use whatever products you have on hand this is just what we have found most time and cost effective.

2. Quality Spray Bottle for the Ginger Lily Spray

3A few quality scrub brushes. I love these from Mr. Siga!

4.  Some Durable Sponges.

We have two favorites. My first favorite is the Blueland Dual sided Loofah sponge.

Environmentally and globally conscious I find it the most used sponge in my kitchen.

My second favorite sponge is the Norwex EnviroSponges.

5.  Rubber gloves for dishwashing.

Do you have a favorite brand of rubber gloves? Share with us if so! I have not yet found a quality rubber glove that I’ve been happy with. But if you are doing a thorough kitchen clean up, you are going to want some rubber gloves because we want that water hot and you don’t want to burn your hands.

Pre-Steps: If you have family members or roommates, invite them to join in the fun.

Pre-Step One: Go through the entire house and gather all the dishes. You can use a trash bag, you can use a reusable grocery bag, a box, whatever. But if we’re going to get the kitchen cleaned, we don’t want to clean the kitchen and find out there’s another two loads scattered around the house. Feel free to recruit some kids or family members to help you out with this. Send them on a dish hunt. Tell them, yes! The silverware counts too. (“…but you just told me to look for dishes!”😝) Next time you’re at the bank – yes, they do still exist – see if they have the gold dollar coins available and if you can (there were years I could not afford paper towels) stock up on $10 or $30 to hand out to the family members when they help you out. You could do it with quarters and dollar bills but I find the kids love the gold coins, and so do the adults…

Pre- Step Two: (Optional) If you would like us to cheer you on, AND the rest of your family/roommates are OK with it, make sure anything that would identify you, your peeps or your home such as pictures, address, etc or anything that would identify you is out of the photo, then take two or three photos or four photos of the mess. No AI! Just real 2D photos of real 3D messes in YOUR home (not someone else’s).😊

These are your before photos. When you are done, you are going to take after photos. AND if you post them on our blog or Facebook page to show what you have accomplished so we can applaud you and celebrate with you, we will send you a free downloadable gift!

Step 1.  If there’s dirty laundry in the basket(s), then dump the laundry out. Don’t worry! You can put it back in later. SCRUB OUT THE LAUNDRY BASKETS, then use a sanitizing wipe or sanitizing spray to completely sanitize the insides. This is important, because your clean dishes that need to be rinsed are going to go here.

Step 2.  Get your environment set up so that this can have an element of fun. Don’t take more than 8 minutes on this step, but get some music or audible story, get yourself a glass of water, some form of a treat, chocolate, chai tea latte, coffee, fruit whatever you like. (Sorry the alcohol has to wait until after the project is done…😊)

Step 3. Gather Your Supplies. I am going to do this particular list for people who do not have a dishwasher. You can adapt it if you have a dishwasher, but when your kitchen gets really behind, sometimes it’s more streamlined to catch everything up by hand and just have one load of the dishwasher running while you’re catching everything else up.

Please note: if you’re in a hurry to get the job done, you do not need to wait to order these things. Just use whatever you have on hand. But this supply list are items I have discovered over the past number of years that continue to save us time and money.

Step 4. You are going to completely detail your sink. If you have a double sink you’re going to detail all of it and both sides.

**Get everything out of the sink or double sink.**

Trust me on this, it’s going to work. Shove it somewhere. If you have floor space and you don’t have any counter space, it can go on the floor. If you feel the floor is absolutely too dirty, grab one, two or three kitchen size trash bags, fill them up with the stuff that was in the sink and put them on the floor.

Step 4. Remove everything on the backsplash and behind your sink, sponges whatever you have. If anything is mildewed and could go into the dirty laundry throw it somewhere in a pile where you can wash it immediately. If you have mildewed sponges and you have a clean new one somewhere, throw away the mildewed sponges and switch them out. When you have time and money purchasing the sponges on our supply list will save you a lot of headache. One of them can be tossed in the dishwasher and the other has a unique property that “inhibits the growth of…mold or mildew.”

Step 5. Scrub Your Sinks Inside and Out, using your sponge, try to scrub as quickly as possible the backsplash and just detail the area between the actual sink and the counter that has a tendency to get a little bit of mold. An old toothbrush, just don’t forget to throw it away, will get some of those hard to reach places. You can also use some stronger chemicals on it if you want to. We have allergic reactions to chemicals in our family so I stick with products that do not contain bleach or ammonia. But set yourself a time limit of between 10 and 30 minutes. Set your timer on the phone. And depending on how long it’s been since your sink has been detailed you should be able to knock it out pretty fast. The goal is to get it as clean as possible and then rinse it out really well. Dry the backsplash and the back counter in the counter around it. You are only washing the sink right now not your whole kitchen! You can just get a little bit of the sink counter around it, like 1 inch or so.

Step 6. If your hot water is not very hot, you need to boil a pot of water, either a large teapot or like a large spaghetti pot. Set that going and put it on high. Remember to use oven mitts when you take it off! You will add this hot water to your sink water when you’re washing dishes. Repeat as necessary. If your hot water gets to a very hot temperature then you don’t need to boil water. Fill your sink or double sinks 3/4 full with soapy water. Put plenty of dish soap in. If you are using our spray products just Spritz everything really well. The Ginger Lily Farms doesn’t have as much soap suds but it works very well. And for products that you use with sprays you can be spraying the dishes as you put them in.

Step 7. Find a sturdy jar or utensil holder that is clean, clean it if it’s not, to hold your silverware and utensils in. If you have a lot you might need more than one. This goes to the right of your sink if you’re right handed and have room. Or to the left of your sink if you’re left-handed.

Step 8.  Fill up the sink or sinks with dirty dishes. If you’re using a spray product like Ginger Lily Farms, spritz some of the more stuck on plates and pans with the spray as you’re sticking it into the water.

There are two ways you can load the dishes, depending on your personality.

One you can just grab whatever’s closest and start throwing things in.

That messes with my OCD. I quickly scan through all of the dirty items and usually try to start with all the silverware and glasses first. Then I’ll do all of the bowls, then all the plates. And then finally the pots and pans. I don’t take a lot of time looking for items that are underneath or inside things. I just grab as much silverware and glasses as I can and fill up the sinks. It’s not a big deal if I get done with the glasses and the silverware and then two steps later discover I miss a few they just get tossed in.

But my sense of order and need for order prefers to do it this way so find what works best for you. The goal is to get the dishes washed!

Step 9. Allow a minute or two for the soap to sink in. This is a good time for your first break unless you’ve already taken a few! Take 5 or 10 minutes and have a treat, change your music or audiobook and get ready for the next step! It is best if you have a good Degreaser product such as the Ginger Lily Farms. Dawn also will work. I just didn’t like Dawn after they switched over to the new scent. It was making me sick.🤷‍♀️ I’ve actually never done this without a good strong soap so I’m not quite sure how it will work if you’re soap isn’t that strong, but just do the best you can.

Step 10.  As fast as you can, wash the dishes in the sink(s)! Put the silverware in the containers to the side, you can even put a pot out to put things in that are smaller, knives, anything that’s liable to fall out of the holes of the laundry basket needs to go to the side. All of the larger items just fill up your laundry basket or baskets. As soon as you’re done with one sink load, or two sink loads, drain your water. Refill it with soap and keep washing! Remember to take breaks! Especially if you’re high right brain creative or you’re going to get bored. Go outside get some sunshine for 5 minutes after 45 minutes and come back in and tackle it some more.

Here is the best part about this system! — You are NOT trying to wash, dry and put away all your dishes!! You’re JUST trying to get them all washed and clean your counters so you have space to work.

Step 11.  Once every dish from your kitchen and table, dining room, bathroom bedroom, is washed, and either in the tubs to the side of the sink or in your laundry baskets, quickly wash down your counters. If you have too much clutter consider grabbing a couple of boxes or reusable grocery bags to put things that you don’t use all the time in to be sorted through later. Create a space on your counter that is clean, so you have a place to work.

Step 12. Take a Bow. Wait for the silent Applause. You have done an amazing job! You have washed every dish! Now take a bunch of photos and send them to us so we can celebrate with you! Take a break. Have a meal. Go for a run. Or walk. Or a crawl. And NOW you can have that half glass of wine or that beer…😉

BUT WAIT! YOU SAY,
🤯🤯🤯
I know, I know… you are thinking, “…but I’m not finished yet…

But You ARE finished washing ALL the dishes! They are all clean!

What comes next is up to you and depends on your circumstances. The beautiful thing about this system is the dishes are washed.

If you are exhausted right now, you have completed your job for the day. If you need a dish or somebody else needs a dish, they just need to find it, rinse it, and if they want to, they can dry it and use it.

The following are different scenarios for what can come next:

If you have young children, **get all of your sharp knives and anything potentially dangerous rinsed and dried first and put away.**

Drain your dirty sink water, make sure the sink is clean again, wash it out if you have to and rinse it thoroughly.

Then fill the sink with clear lukewarm or cool water.

Lay out some drying mats or clean towels on the counters.

Have the child or children set a 10 to 30 minute timer depending on their age and rinse as many as they can as fast as they can.

If they are very young you might want to do the glasses and breakable things yourself first, and have them rinse everything and put everything onto the towels on the counter.

Once everything is rinsed and out of the baskets stack the baskets and put them back where they belong.

If time permits things can be dried and put away, or they can stay out and be put away either the next morning or you can simply grab what you need from the towel when you need something.

Note: It doesn’t have to be like your mom did it. She was a great mom, but she wasn’t you. And that’s okay. So there are people that are going to look at this and think I’m completely crazy. And there are going to be people that look at this and think oh my gosh that’s what I’ve been missing all my life! Well maybe not quite that excited, but hopefully it’ll help a few others besides me….😊😊

If you have family members that are older, older children, roommates, ask everybody to chip in rinsing and putting everything on either drying mats that you lay on the counter or you can just use clean towels. In a jam one time when the laundry was dirty I even just laid out a bunch of paper towels and it worked.

If you live by yourself, you can determine for yourself whether you’re done and you’re going to tackle rinsing in the morning or whether you want to just keep going or whether you want to take a break and then come back to it and rinse and put things on the dish mats or towels.

But one thing that I want to conquer in this laundry basket method of conquering the 14er Mountain of dishes, is I’d like to help conquer –

the voices –

that have told us we’ve been doing everything wrong,
because we didn’t do it like our mother or Aunt or grandmother or somebody else did it.

This system may or may not work for you.

But we have a lot of unseen rules passed down sometimes from generation to generation, sometimes from the culture, from the internet, the screen, so many laws of how to look and how we have to act, and to everything there is a time and a season. Sometimes there’s a place for that. And there is something to be said for continuity.

But the kitchen and the dishes don’t always have to be clean. The truth is

Every day you need to eat.
You need to be kind to the people in your circle and to those around you.

There are a lot of unspoken rules that take away our TEMR (time energy money and resources) from the things that are important and keep us stuck and emotionally broke because we’re trying to do too much.

I want you to know that

it’s okay if you have to put your dishes in a laundry basket so that you can have some peace that they’re actually done.

Whatever system works for YOU. And if you have some unique ideas for your own situation and you want to talk them through, I would love to speak with you.

I hate having to charge money. I wish I was independently wealthy and I could give everybody free time whenever they wanted, but God is the only one that I know that can listen to everybody all the time.

If I have the ability to give you free time I will.

PM me.

It might only be 15 minutes, it just depends where I’m at in my week. Other than that my professional time is $33 an hour and if you want to do 15 minutes, I’m fine with that. I don’t have a degree — LOL well at least not the kind most people think.

I suppose one could say I have a degree from the School of Hard Knocks, but more than that I have a degree from the school of Grace. I’ve had a lot of Grace given to me in my life and I’m happy to share that with you. So if you want an organizational chat for 30 minutes or an hour just let me know.

I have two goals for you reading my blogs.

One is that you will not get stuck with unspoken rules that you’ve been trained for so many years that keep you from being at peace with the person in the mirror when those rules are not necessary for life or godliness.

And for the Christians out there the quote that we hear so often, “Cleanliness is Next to Godliness…” Just letting you know, that is not in the Bible. 🤷‍♀️🤯😊

God is less concerned with the outward appearances of cleanliness than he is with the inward cleanliness of the heart, but that is a dishwashing only he can do. 💞😊

The second goal from my blogs is to encourage you, if you are one of those people who can do everything well, please I beg of you…

Take an hour out of your time once a month or once every two weeks or even once a week and look around you and see who you can help to do things that you find easy to do, because there are many people that spend their lives with chronic illness that would absolutely love a non-judgmental, loving hand in the kitchen…

– IF they can get past those unspoken rules that tell them…

they’re not worth it
or their house is too dirty
or it’s just THEIR job to clean their home, regardless of how sick they are or past trauma or a myriad of other things that are true and real to keep people from Simply getting the nourishment and food and love and peace in their homes they should have.
The lies that you’re not actually supposed to let anybody help you.

I would love to see those unspoken rules destroyed. Because there are some laws that are meant to be broken and those are laws that God did not set up and often for those who strive to live a life for God the reason we have so much trouble obeying his laws and we find them so difficult is because there’s so many other laws that the world demands of us that are far more difficult that are draining our time and energy that we just believe firmly that we have to obey.

Sometimes you just have to step away and step out of the world and say, “I’m done.”

The world might say you can’t use a laundry basket to do dishes. I beg to differ.

Friend, today make sure you drink your water. And make sure you take your vitamins, and eat healthy food that will help your body for years to come, not cause it pain and suffering down the road. I know that Beyond everything you are so very loved and treasured by the Creator of the universe. Worship God. May our time and energy money and resources be used for his glory. May we Hallow his name and what we say and do because every breath comes from him and he deserves our thanks and our praise.

Wishing you the very best. prayers for your blessing and healing and as always, God’s Peace.

Supply List for the 14er Mountain of Dirty Dishes

(Please note: As an Amazon Affiliate, I (Christa) earn from qualifying purchases. Our hope and dream is that any income earned can help build this business and eventually, once we are in the clear, fulfill the dream of being able to provide “a bit o’ clean” to people that cannot normally afford it.)

THIS IS THE LAUNDRY BASKET METHOD! For a full description of this method, please click on this link!

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A TALL LAUNDRY BASKET, YOU WILL NEED ONE to three, depending on the size of your mountain of dishes.

Number One: You Need a Good Quality Dish Soap. The following is what we continue to use to save time and money.

Ginger Lily Farms Fragrance Free Foaming/Spray Dish Soap  –   I found this product while staying at a B&B that was very well managed. (Thanks, Kai!) It has been a game changer for me. Cuts down grease quickly, saves time and energy on scrubbing and is cost-effective by using a reusable spray bottle you save on plastic waste from Individual purchase of traditional dish soaps.

I pair this in my kitchen with the Norwex pump dish soap Forever Refillable BioZyme™ Set with Dispenser

as well as the Blueland dishwasher tablets

and Blueland Powder Dish Soap.

Number Two: You need a Quality Spray Bottle for the Ginger Lily Farms Dish Spray   Now if you have something like a Meyers soap spray bottle or some other bottle that you’ve used for soap in the past, you can just rinse that out and use that, but I will tell you there is nothing that I hate more than going to the grocery store picking up a spray bottle and it breaking less than a week later. I have gone through so many cheap spray bottles and I’ve had a few of them purchased that never even actually worked, so I do recommend a quality spray bottle that’s not going to break within the first 3 months. I like the Blueland spray bottles. And so sometimes when I do an order for Blueland I’ll just pick up a couple extra of those spray bottles and then just use masking tape to write on there whatever spray I’m actually using.

Number Three: You need a few quality Scrub Brushes. I love these from Mr. Siga!

They are stiff and long handled and very durable. I used them for prepping and pre-scrubbing dirty pots and pans. They come in a two pack which I find handy. I actually just keep both of them hanging and then if somebody else in the family needs to be using one to clean one pan while I’m cleaning another we have them both accessible. While technically they will work as a bottle brush, they are very stiff so they will only fit in bottles that are that wide. If you have a lot of bottles of various sizes, you’ll want a few different bottle brushes and something with some softer bristles.

Number Five: You need some Durable Sponges.

We have two favorites.

My first favorite is the Blueland Dual sided Loofah sponge. Environmentally and globally conscious I find it the most used sponge in my kitchen.  I love that it fits in my hand just perfectly and the scrubbing side is quite powerful, yet gentle and durable. I also love that this particular sponge can be tossed into the dishwasher in one of the little closed side containers. About every two weeks I toss it in the dishwasher for a thorough washing. As much as we do dishes around here, one sponge lasts me about 6 to 8 weeks. (The typical sponges that you buy in a three pack in the store last me usually 1 to 2 weeks before they get gross and start falling apart.) The other thing I absolutely love about this sponge is the fact that they’re hand sewn. I am a firm believer in meaningful work and the fact that we’ve taken that away from society ever since the age of manufacturing without thinking of putting limits on stripping meaningful work from people frustrates me. Anything we can do to return meaningful work to society in my eyes is a gain.

My second favorite sponge is the Norwex EnviroSponge.

This one works well on pots and pans, non-stick items, glasses, pretty much everything as well.

The one thing I like about it most is the fact that they have a “BacLock®*” built into many of their products. From their site: “The dual-sided, multipurpose EnviroSponge quickly wipes up spills and easily tackles even the most stubborn, sticky messes without scratching. The EnviroCloth® microfiber with BacLock®* on one side and special scrubby microfiber on the other ensure that kitchen messes are handled quickly and easily – without harmful chemicals!

*BacLock is an antimicrobial agent solely intended to protect and self-clean the cloth by inhibiting growth of odor-causing bacteria, mold and mildew. BacLock does not protect people from disease-causing pathogens.”

This is really helpful if you have kids or family members that have a habit of not rinsing the sponge out thoroughly. I have a pretty bad allergic reaction to mold and mildew and I went through quite a number of years of just being so frustrated because people would leave sponges out and they would get mildewed (the sponges, not the people…) and I would get a little bit sick picking them up and having to throw them away. I went through so many sponges. So I like the Norwex EnviroSponge.   I keep both of these sponges on hand and I use them both throughout my week.

You need Rubber Gloves for Dishwashing.

Do you have a favorite brand of rubber gloves? Share with us if so!

I have not yet found a quality set of rubber gloves that I’ve been happy with. No matter what rubber gloves I get, how expensive they are or how cheap they are, I put holes in them within 1 to 2 weeks. Now that we have an electric dishwasher, (instead of the human dishwasher..) it’s not such a big deal because I’m not doing so much hand washing. But if you are doing a thorough kitchen clean up, you are going to want some heavy rubber gloves because we want that water hot and you don’t want to burn your hands. So get quality rubber gloves, nothing too thin or cheap. If you do not have them, then just watch the temperature on your water, but it cleans faster if it’s hot.

That is pretty much is it for this project. And this is also how we keep our kitchen clean. We have a few other products we use for our business for cleaning other people’s homes that we will share at a later time. But these products will help you save time and money in your kitchen routines and when you’re playing your mountain of dishes! Whatever message you use.

Can a $50 purchase save hundreds of dollars?

YES!

https://www.norwex.com/p/basic-package-mountains-blue?s=christamason&store=us

I sell a 2 cloth cleaning/window cloth set and a counter cloth set that is designed to reduce chemical use in your home and can save you hundreds of dollars over 5 to 10 years in paper towels. (I still use paper towels for seriously gross messes like meat blood or dog poop.)

You DON’T need to buy windex or Sprayway ever again!

The Enviro cloth and the window buffing cloth you’re not wiping up a bunch of germs this is basically for Windows. They have an antibac mildew protection in the class which is huge for me because I’m allergic to chemicals and I’m highly allergic to mildew. So this is been a huge find for me.

Also look up the counter cloths on the site. You can get three for I believe around $25 but I love the little house with a set of six because you can just lay the wet cloth over the top of the little house and it’s cute as all can get. I actually purchased two, one for my kitchen and one for my bathroom. And the other thing that’s really cool is it’s an easy way you can engage your family to help keep things clean and shiny.

The biggest thing is you have to remember to rinse them out thoroughly and hang them to dry but they all have little loops on them that you can hang them on a lot of knobs in the kitchen or bathroom or if you don’t have knobs to hang things on you could always just stick small Command hooks for the extras if you wanted to. I keep a few in my laundry room and in various places in the house. Just get some water on them wipe things clean or use them dry to wipe up spills. They don’t have to go through the washing machine except once in awhile, though if I’m cleaning something off of the floor then I put it in my small Norwex laundry basket.

These cloths have literally transformed my life. (For one, I signed up as a consultant over them.)

Quick Benefits I have Found:

USES ONLY WATER
SAVES  TIME
SAVES MONEY
REDUCES CHEMICAL USE IN MY HOME (for me this is one of the biggest things, because I have huge chemical insensitivities)

I DID NOT BELIEVE IT when my friend handed me the cloth the first time.

I was cleaning house for her and she said, “Oh, you don’t need Windex; just use this.”

I am a perfectionist and there was no way that cloth was going to get her windows and bathroom mirrors clean in her 4 bed 3 bath with four kids house.

BUT — the cloths worked! I was beyond amazed.

That night I spent three and a half hours researching the product.

So, for those who are interested here’s the notes from my nerdy research:

https://abit0clean.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fabit0clean.com%2F2026%2F05%2F31%2Fnerdy-norwex-research-notes%2F%3Fpreview%3Dtrue%26frame-nonce%3Ddf59964f1a

Now for those people who the chemicals don’t bother you, it is a little bit faster getting grease off the stove if you use the typical strong chemical and sponge, but for just regular grease spills or soup spills or anything else on the stove if you catch it while it’s fresh the counter-class just get it all up with just water.

Even the grease which I found really impressive. If there’s a lot of Grease it might take four or five rinsings of the countercloth just to get it cleaned and obviously you can also just use the Norwex sponge with the Norwex dish soap on the stove as well but usually I just use the water and counter cloth unless something’s particularly messy.

I love being chemical free especially because of my sensitivities and I think it’s healthier. And just water and my countercloths and my entire kitchen is clean AND shining! A dry countercloth Buffs very nicely my refrigerator and if it needs special care I can just use the window cloth and Enviro cloth but the counter cloths I’ve been just using to get the fingerprints off, just a wet one to wipe everything down and a dry one to shine the sink and the refrigerator and anything else that needs shiny. Works on the microwave too.

It’s absolutely amazing. I honestly have never like been excited over a product before but these products yes they do make me happy.

So I purchased the set with this cute little house which you’ll see in one of the links so that’s $60 for six cloths and the little house but the little house is so cute and you can put the cloth right over it when it’s drying. Plus the cloths are absolutely amazing because they all have these really cool little tags that you can hook them pretty much anywhere with.

I guess it depends on your type of cabinets but for me they hang really great on the cabinets or just anywhere I keep them in my laundry room I have an entire separate set in the bathroom because then I can just touch up the bathroom really quickly and you can train your family to do this too so you’re not doing all the work I cannot tell you how much time and money this has saved me just in 2 months!

So because I really enjoy helping people organize and clean their homes, I started A Bit O’ Clean, LLC  to help people in the Denver area. Finding the Norwex cloths just made everything so much more fun and doable.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me or if you want you can just simply order online through my link.

Nerdy Norwex Research Notes

So, for those who are interested here’s the notes from my nerdy research:

1. Can I get them cheaper or find a similar product somewhere else?

My conclusion is NO.

I tried a few of the cheaper micro fiber cloths and they just simply don’t do the same job. They also are not guaranteed to last as long. Norwex has a two-year guarantee on their products but when I researched out the comments pretty much everybody said they last at least 5 years and some people set up to 10 years as long as you properly care for them. That is an important fact. So there’s a few rules to their care that have to be followed. They’re not too complicated but they do have to be followed.

There are cloths out there that are not authorized by the company, so you don’t know how the people selling them online got them or where they got them from or whether or not they’re legit and even the same cloths.

Can I get them cheaper than what is on the website? My answer for myself came up, “No, not with out being concerned I was purchasing from a less than honest party which I won’t do. And I had no guarantee that the product was actually what it said it was so I’m going to purchase from the company. The company does not sell to Walmart or anything like that like some MLM companies do. They support their consultants who sell for them by only selling through Consultants. Part of the reason is because the products do take a little bit of explaining and demonstrations. You can watch videos but you have to use the products the way they tell you to use them or they’re not as effective and you’re not really saving the time and money.

2.  Are they bad for the environment?

The second huge consideration as we are entering the world of microplastics was, what is the loss going down the drain and entering the oceans?

This is a complicated one and each individual has to make their own judgment here.

Our society has learned the danger of plastics to the environment. We are working to reduce plastic, perhaps eventually completely get rid of our plastic use.

But we still live in a world where a lot of times we need to use plastic for various things. I have been able to switch from plastic tubs to glass, but they still use plastic lids.

So as we are working toward the mistakes we’ve made with the environment everybody has to work on their own conscious.

I am not the perfect recycler. I am striving to grow there.

There’s a balance in earth care while caring for humans, but these cloths in testing only lost 0.026 ounces (approx. 737 mg) in *200* washings.

Compare this to washing a load of polyester clothes.

“Washing polyester releases anywhere from 10 mg to over 1,200 mg of microfibers per kilogram of clothing per wash, translating to roughly 700,000 microplastic fibers released into the water supply per cycle. Heavily brushed or fuzzy items, such as polyester fleeces, release up to six times more than tightly woven fabrics.” National Institute of Health

One envirocloth is 0.059 kg so roughly 17 cloths to one kg.

Do the math, 17 envirocloths lose 0.442 mg of microfiber per 1 kg per 200 washings. (You won’t have that many! At the very most you might want 3 cloths, but one will suffice for most homes imo. I use will 4 per employee for my cleaning business.)

Compared to 10 mg minimum for 1 kg polyester clothes per washing x 200 is 2000 mg lost minimum.

At the max of 1200 mg lost per load times 200 is 240,000 mg microfiber lost in 1 kg of polyester clothes washed 200.

So Norwex loses approx 0.442 mg fiber per 1 kg per 200 washes.

Polyester clothing at MININUM is 2000 mg lost or 240,000 mg lost Maxium.

So my conclusion is the Norwex microfiber cloths are much more environmentally conscious in microfiber loss than our typical polyester clothing.

To top that off,

Each Enviro cloth is made up of between 50 and 91% recycled plastic for an average of 70% recycled plastic use.

So Norwex definitely is striving to be environmentally conscious regarding plastic in my opinion, as well as striving to remove harmful chemicals from our homes.

Now the one question I wasn’t sure and that I don’t think there was any way to answer easily was what do they constitute a washing? Every time you use the Norwex cloth you just rinse them out thoroughly and hang them to dry. I don’t think that constitutes a washing like in a washing machine. So typically you are only going to need to wash them usually every 2 to 4 weeks.

You might want to do it more often but in my small apartment with a family of three for the most part I’ve been throwing them in about every 2 to 3 weeks I just go through and wash them all. If I get something sticky or something that’s just not coming out easily on one of them.

I have a separate Norwex basket because you need to keep them separate from your other clothes and wash them separately, so I have a separate Norwex basket that I just toss them in and then again about every 2 to 3 weeks, I just wash all of them and then put them back out again.

But you certainly don’t need to wash them all the time and I doubt you need to wash them every week.

For an individual family, you don’t have to wash them very often, probably every 4 to 8 weeks. You just rinse them out thoroughly each time you use them and then hang them up to dry.

I use them for my business and so I do wash them more frequently.

3. Will they last or will I have to replace them every three months or even every year? (If that were the case the financial end would not be worth it to me.)

The research that I did online, number one, Norwex guarantees their things for 2 years.

Now here there is a condition, not for their guarantee, but for them to last more than 2 years you have to wash them according to the directions. Very simply get a small laundry basket and Mark it Norwex cloths, and wash your Norwex cloths separately even if it’s a small load. But they don’t have to be washed very often, usually I would assume every 3 to 4 weeks.

When I did the math with the paper towels, one year would be break even on the cost for me just with paper towels not counting the Windex and other supplies so if they last more than one year I’ve gotten my money’s worth.

Now that was for me with the amount of paper towels we go through.

Each individual would have to do their own reconciliation on how much paper towels or other supplies such as rags or the Swedish dishcloths they use.

These cloths do not take the place of sponges that you used to wash your dishes. You can purchase the Norwex sponge, if you’re interested in that product.

We go through one to two paper towel rolls a week and I was amazed at how much that came up to per year. I don’t typically use Costco right now so I’m usually paying grocery store prices.

But this was the thing that amazed me regarding cost analysis: almost everybody said that they last for at least 5 years and quite a few people said they had theirs that lasted for 10 years. I didn’t research as carefully the counter cloths but I would assume they would be similar.

So I am definitely saving not just a little bit of money but hundreds of dollars if my cloths will last for 5 years as long as I don’t misplace the money that I’m saving.

Now hear me carefully: every store, every MLM has things that you are saving money on, but if you’re not careful, you’ll get caught up in purchasing things that you don’t need at that location that are not saving money and then it could end up being a loss.

So for example if you go to the Dollar Tree, it might look like you’re saving money but depending on what you’re buying and if you get carried away and overspend, then you’re not. If I’m paying $1 for a roll of toilet paper that doesn’t have that many sheets I’m actually losing money.

With Norwex, 🙃 as with any shopping, the Temptation is to get caught up and buy all the cute little things that I don’t need – which if you have the resources and the money to do that, that’s fine, you can do that, but we are on a pretty tight budget and so if I’m not careful this will become a loss and not save money.

So I only buy what I actually need not just what looks cute but isn’t actually saving me time or money.

I’m not saying the other products aren’t good, I just don’t need a new bathroom hand towel right now or new skin care. That’s not something I personally need, I’m content with the bath hand towel and skin care products that I have.

So if you’re on a tight budget, just be aware, just get the things that you actually need that are actually going to save you time and money.

Some of the items are for the benefit of removing chemicals from the home and I think those are rational goals but on my tight income I’m not going to transition to that all at once, because the cost is higher than the cheaper products I buy and I simply can’t afford it now, even if I do think it’s a good idea.

Just like for a number of years we could not afford to pay for recycling which was not free in our area. I believe in it but I couldn’t afford it and I didn’t have the time or energy to recycle but eventually we grew into that and now I am Recycling and growing in that area.

But these cloths to me are a win hands down. I spent $100 and as long as I take care of the cloths properly and wash them according to the directions, I will gain through the save hundreds of dollars over 5 or more years. And I don’t even need a lottery ticket!😝

These have been a money saver and the hugest Time Saver for me. It’s basically a “wax on wax off.” That is for cleaning the windows.

I absolutely love the countercloth kit. I just started using them 2 months ago and I have already saved probably four or five rolls of paper towels if not more cuz we went through anywhere from one to two rolls a week. Yes our family is messy.

Now I personally won’t use them on meat blood or something gross I’ll still use a sanitizing wipe on that. But pretty much anything else even like when I’m cleaning grease off the stove all you need is water it’s crazy it really works.

Sometimes it takes a little bit of elbow grease – which is not included😝 but they also have a cleaning paste that I have tried that I think works pretty well. I haven’t personally made a decision whether I think it’s worth the money for me personally because I’m not somebody that’s going to spend hours scrubbing the countertops with comet, but it is chemical free from the strong chemicals like bleach or ammonia and that is a plus to me so I do like that product and I went ahead and tried that and there’s just a few products that I use that I think are benefit to my home as well as to my cleaning business. I really like the cleaning paste for the cleaning business that’s where I use it the most.

Why the Power to Say “NO” and Let Go is SO Important

🙃 I come from a Christian background, so a lot of my stories are going to have a Christian spin on them. Whatever your belief system, I hope you can take away something to benefit you from my storytelling.😊

The Bible tells us that God created the heavens and the Earth and then a loving father provided an entire universe for the kids that he was about to place into this amazing beautiful Earth. So think about it, Adam and Eve didn’t even have to wear clothes. The Bible told them to take care of the Earth and to take dominion over it so there must have been something that needed taken dominion over. He didn’t just say to take care, the taking Dominion means to make sure things are working the way they’re supposed to work and that things that are trying to come in and Destroy aren’t doing that. That’s my spin on it anyway.

And in the original Garden there was one no. Just one. There was only one thing they were not supposed to do. They weren’t supposed to eat from the Tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil. Again this is my spin here but it would appear to me that their thoughts were constantly perfectly aligned to what needed to be done that was good and healthy and right. Just one “no.”

They were created to enjoy life. The garden was full of beautiful fruits and things to eat. Adam got to name all the animals so that tells us he’s pretty darned intelligent. And then God maybe even he was like ooh la la! And life got even better.

He didn’t have to build a house from my perspective again this is my literary license here, they could just lay out on the ground at night and nothing would harm them and have perfect sleep. Mists came up and watered the Earth.

Best part was they got to hang out with the creator of the universe their father every evening and talk about the day and all the things they accomplished. The world was created for family. And God and Adam and Eve or the first family.

Just think about this for a minute.

There was no house to clean. The Earth was the house and it was perfectly functioning you throw the apple core down and it was disposed of. I would assume you just went to the bathroom and that was just part of the process of how the Earth functioned. The Bible doesn’t say it was perfect, because certainly there was a talking snake that caused a whole lot of trouble with its lies.

God warned Adam the day that he ate from the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil he would die. And there most certainly was a death that happened instantly.

But God in his Mercy protected Adam and Eve so that physical death didn’t come immediately and since his original plan for Perfection and beauty and peace were destroyed at the fall, he implemented another plan. One to rescue and Save those who he adored and loved so very much that were now separated from him.

Because God isn’t going to stop being love or truth because of our sin or because of the Fall. He’s not going to start hating and murdering. He’s not going to start calling things that are horrible and bad such as greed and pride and self-centeredness, good. In his power there is nothing that he cannot do. But in his love there are many things he will not do. And he did choose to put that tree in the garden because perfection without choice and free will would only be the perfect slavery and God is love.

As a Christian I believe Jesus died for the sins of the whole world and there is now one tree once again. Before there was one no, now there is one yes. One choice to make to believe God and to love him.

But in this world now for us to be healthy and safe and live in relation with God, there are so many things we have to say no! to…

And it is not easy it is hard and often we cannot do what we should do, hence our need for a savior.

What does this have to do with cleaning your house? Well I know Eve sins are forgiven but there are days where I think we’re going to have a serious conversation with her because at the fall of mankind when she decided to not believe God, we evolved. And not for the better because now there was housekeeping and laundry.

But her sins are forgiven just like mine are, so we will let it go, but we live in a world that constantly throws tons of things into our line of vision that we do not need for life. Hear me. We are depressed because often we are causing ourselves depression. Our brains and bodies now under the fall don’t always do and crave what is good and right. Rationally you would think if you chose something that was destructive it would hurt but that’s not what happens when you take an illegal drug or drink too much alcohol or smoke a cigarette, at least not right away.

One of the things that I have seen is people have a need to connect with their family and this is a very good thing or their friends. But exactly how many memories do we need to store up to prove that we are loved and have had a good life in various things? We have lost the ability to set healthy limits limits and it’s such a big need in our society today.

We have limited time energy money and space. But we want more things than can fill our time energy and space. We have got to learn to tell that inner child and the person in the mirror a very resounding no! And we have to learn to do it with gentleness and kindness and force and love because the world is constantly throwing so many things as telling us oh you need makeup oh you need this oh you need that and we busy ourselves working so hard for so many things that are not needful for life. And beloved, this is destroying us. And the more things that we set in front of our eyes saying oh we can do this and this is great without putting limitations upon ourselves and the world around us, the more we get into a tizzy and we do not enjoy the things that we have.

There is an Amish saying that I love and I have it on my wall. It says if God is all you have you have nothing to lose.

Just think for a moment about how much money and time and work we have put into on things that are not needed for life. Okay so yes we need clothes we need food, and yes there is a level of enjoyment, but we have created an unsustainable Society, and unsustainable government and often for many of us and I know that I am talking to myself not just you, and unsustainable home life.

We have got to regain sanity and our Authority and tell ourselves and even those within our Circle this has to stop. I can remember with my chronic health issues being so frustrated when everybody wanted to bless my children which was great that they had a heart to bless my children with so many presents. I counted the stuffed animals that my children owned when they were six and seven and there were 72 of them. But we couldn’t afford groceries. I didn’t know that I had the right to tell people no or to tell my kids no and no I’m not being a mean mother to limit the amount of stuffed animals or clothes my children have. As long as we are equally doing it with the parents. We don’t need TVs people. We don’t need video games. We don’t need a bunch of entertainment. We need to relearn how to enjoy the gifts that God has given a fresh sunshine and air and trees. And we can put our highly intelligence energetic bodies into the creativity of caring for this Earth and seeking to solve the problems and embrace the challenges that many people around us have.

America does not have a problem with lack of money or resources or food. There Is No Lack in this country. Not of time energy money or things needed for life. What we are lacking is wisdom of how to use what we have been given. What is lacking is the ability to tell the person in the mirror no I am not going to spend $5,000 on things needed for life when there are 10 people on the streets in front of me who do not have the training or meaningful work to sustain their lives.

I’m not trying to get people to be miserable, I’m trying to help us to retrain our brain patterns into delighting in things that we are given instead of craving things that we do not need. In saying no and yes there is an often an element of pain that goes into this to the things not needed for life so the things that are needed for life do not die.

We we are the wealthiest Society most likely within the past 5 millennium and we will one day stand and have a conversation with the past Generations of how we have done taking care of what is our responsibility. Our country has huge amount of waste of time and energy, not to mention resources. And the point of this blog is for us to examine our own lives and see what can we remove from our lives and stop our obsession with so many things that we do not need, so that we can reach out to others who do not have what they need for life.

We are working on our own lives and families with this concept and we would love to get it into the mix with you and help transition the mentality of this generation so the Next Generation can thrive.

As always wishing you the best and praying for God’s peace in your life. Wherever you are at whatever you believe whatever you’ve been through, you are dearly treasured and deeply loved. In every blade of grass, every sunrise and every sunset is the creator of the universe speaking as loudly as the universe can, I love you. And when that was not enough, because a lie had come saying that God doesn’t love you as much as you think and he’s not giving you his best, after giving us all of creation, he showed us his love for us and gave us himself. At the cross he gave his very own son so that we could see without a shadow of a doubt, we are treasured we are loved. And no circumstance on this Earth. No portion of the fall of mankind, no snake and no sin will change that love, but it is up to us to say yes to God and to Simply believe him.

God’s peace.

Christa

Why A Bit O’ Clean, LLC uses Norwex Enviro clean and Window cloths.

When I started A Bit O’ Clean, LLC, I did it because of my health issues and out of a desire to help people of lower income needing help cleaning and organizing, as well as helping people who need jobs but don’t fit the normal mold required by current culture.

I wanted to work. I wanted to be able to help people organize and clean their homes.

But I have one major problem: I have a very rare autoimmune syndrome, I also have an undiagnosed syndrome that is officially called by the doctors an “undiagnosed syndrome.” I react to chemicals like some people react to nuts. Vape can send me to the ER. Certain perfumes and especially plug-in scents make me really really sick. So I want to go help people clean but I have to be very specific into which houses I go. Hence the reason we carefully match our employees to the customers they’re serving engaging both sides with mutual understanding and respect.

We don’t want to just come in and clean. We want to help transition your life so that it’s easier for you in your home.

Norwex’s Envirocloth and window cloth is one simple, sustainable way to do that.

Norwex Envirocloths and window cloths replace the need for paper towels and chemicals to clean your windows and mirrors.

They are intentionally large enough to be folded into fours so you have eight working surfaces. We use the EnviroClean cloth with just water to quickly clean the surface removing any stuck on toothpaste, or other things from the window or mirror surface, and then use the window cloth to buff and provide a beautiful streak free shine to most glass surfaces. (Not intended for anti-glare coatings.)

I have found one set can clean the glass in a three-story, four bedroom, three bath house, though I do have to be careful because once the window cloth gets too wet, it has to be dried to be able to be used properly. So perfect world, for that size house, I would have two. But you can just throw it in the drier for 15 min to refresh as well.

They are guaranteed for 2 years at least, some of the products are guaranteed for five, and for me personally when I did the math, estimating if they were good for at least 5 years, I would save over $600 in paper towels alone with the purchase of just one or two sets.

When I researched online many customers said they last even more than 10 years with proper care. That’s a lot of paper towels! We would go through about 2 rolls a week in my house.

This, friend, is good economic sense.

Good sense for our business. Good sense for our homes.

The first home I cleaned in just prior to starting the business used those cloths. My entire life I have cleaned for people and I’ve always used various sprays, but with them came that huge chemical smell that makes me so sick.

When my customer handed me the Norwex window cloth and told me all I needed to do was scrub the window down with a wet rag and then use the Norwex window cloth to dry it, I didn’t believe her.

I thought – it’s going to be gross. It’s going to be full of streaks and I’m not going to be able to handle it, even if she does.

Using the Norwex enviro/window cloths, the wet cleaning cloth in my left hand, the buffing window cloth in my right, large bathroom mirrors are cleaned in no time, saving time, energy and money! I was done in a fraction of the time it would have taken me with the traditional chemicals —and there were no streaks.

As of this writing on February 11th 2026 the Enviroclean/ window cloth set is retailing around $46 on Norwex. While this may seem like a lot of money to some to spend on two cloths, with proper care we can save hundreds of dollars on not purchasing paper towels and cleaning sprays. In addition, we are not using chemicals that irritate lungs, especially in those with autoimmune or asthma.

I prefer the package of one window cloth and one regular cloth, a little bit better deal, here:

https://www.norwex.com/p/basic-package-mountains-blue?s=christamason&store=us

After using that cloth at the customer’s house, I signed up in less than a week to become a consultant … and yes,😊 I’m happy to be your Norwex consultant (Christa Mason) but if you already have a Norwex consultant please go through them.😍

I spent 3 hours researching and there are some things you’re going to need to know about Norwex products.

  1. Both Amazon and Walmart sell things listed as Norwex at a much cheaper price. According to the Norwex company they are not authorized by Norwex and could very well be imitations. How that works out legally, I have no idea and will continue to try to research that out. But the actual true Norwex cloths that are purchased through Consultants have a 2-year guarantee. They have something called BacLock.
  2. BacLock – “BacLock is an antimicrobial agent solely intended to protect and self-clean the cloth by inhibiting growth of odor-causing bacteria, mold and mildew.”  I can’t tell you how many times I would throw away dishcloths or sponges because they would get gross and mildewy. And the mildew will literally make me sick because of my immune condition. These you just rinse them out and according to their site – “The densely woven, superfine fibers physically remove up to 99% of bacteria from a surface using only water.”
  3. Now obviously there it does have to be some level of care. They do have to be washed according to the instructions and whenever you’re done using them rinse them out thoroughly and hang them to dry or dry them in the dryer. But — they will clean and clean well when they are properly cared for.
  4. The window cloths are quite large. Proper use is to fold them in quarters and that gives you four surfaces with which to clean so you don’t have to keep changing cloths or paper towels out, you just flip the cloth to a different side. You can do this eight times. I can do two stories of Windows and mirrors in bathrooms with these two cloths. Just rinse them out and hang them to dry and then once a week following the directions wash them in the washing machine or hand wash them gently without a harsh soap and then toss them in the dryer to fluff them.

Now there are a number of other products that I recommend on Norwex and some other time I will let you know what they are. These are products that will save you time, energy and money as well as being healthy for your home and the planet. No product is perfect. But for me this is a perfect economic solution to staying chemical free.

So that my friend, is why we at A Bit O’ Clean, LLC use Norwex Enviroclean and window cloths!

With you on the Journey to a healthier, more peaceful home,

Christa Mason
